First attempt to catch the Milky Way
I always wanted to take a picture of the Milky way.
Living in Belgium, close to Antwerp... a city with a lot of light pollution... this is not an easy thing to do. Not to say impossible.
So last week I was at B&B Gamla Skolan in Sweden and there the light pollution is still not perfect as it is pretty close to Karlstad (city with about 80.000 people) but it is clearly way better than here in Belgium.
So to get this picture I have been fiddling around a bit with my newest lens (8 mm fisheye) and different settings on my camera. The original RAW file looked pretty ok, but it needed some work in Lightroom. I spent a lot of time on adjusting different settings but the outcome never looked good. Most of the time even worse than the original file.
But then I found these presets: http://www.davidkingham.com/night-photography-lightroom-presets
I still have to learn how to use them properly, but this is what I got after about 5 minutes. Ok, it still doesn't look as good as some of the professional Milky Way pictures, but I still feel pretty pleased with it as this is so much better than the results I got in Belgium.
Soon we will move to Sweden permanently, so hopefully I can soon create more and better pictures of the Milky Way. As for now... I guess this will have to do :)
